Bought a Marlin 1895 45/70 the other day. I know it’s a Remington version but there’s no letter prefix in the serial number and no little engraved stamp. Also barrel is still marked New Haven. So I’m guessing it is is from the very beginning of Remingtons take over. What do you think.

Unless I'm mistaken, after takeover, Remington used up the Marlin parts inventory to build rifles.
So some Remington Marlins ended up being ALL Marilin or PART Marlin until that inventory was depleted.

You will enjoy that rifle. Racking that big 45-70 round and knowing you can kill a SUV will give you a big smile.

I have a Marlin 1895 GSBL. My son who gave me the leather shown below calls it “the Ogre” because of green stock. Added a Skinner rear sight and a Wild West trigger. They enhanced the rifle.

Remlins are are a crapshoot you could totally end up getting one made from Marlin parts which will be ok or could be ok and you could get something which is a mix or all Remington parts. Its been my observations the Remington produced guns with Remigton parts are usually the ones that have the most issues

I’m trying to remember from all the reading I did back when I bought my remlin… you can use the serial number to date them. The ones made right after the take over were still pretty much marlin. Then there was a few years where most of bad ones came from… then the later ones got better after Remington got them dialed in. My ABL 45/70 was a 2016 and like I said it was very accurate and I had no complaints with it. I also bought a Henry all weather 45/70 back when they first came out. I preferred shooting the remlin
