Whats really funny is it specificly stated that all parents were aware of assignments ahead of time and if they had a problem with an assignment to call in advance and there would be an alternate allowed.

Parents never called and the kid failed and THEN the parents gripe. Seems like the real issue is not about the PoA in another language but rather people weaseling out of responsibility for their own lack of action before hand.

Hmmm.. for years, hundreds of little Spanish- speaking little kids in the Philipines said the Pledge in Spanish. Hell, the Nips killed a few of them over there resistance and loyalty to the United States.
Of course --- in those days our Country had the will and force to be "imperialistic".

They did teach history in Oklahoma schools over the years?

So if they are discussing American history in a foreign country, in what language do they share the Pledge with the students? I bet is is not English.

Is it un-American that they don't make all the kids learn English, to learn the Pledge in English? Or would you be proud that they are sharing American history and culture in their classrooms.

How many people her are ticked off that they sing/play "O Canada!" at hockey games?

I see nothing wrong with reciting the Pledge in Spanish when in Spanish class.

This detracts from the focus on the real issues and in some ways waters down legitimate arguments over language issues.

Calling it an 'opinions' doesn't change the fact that it can still be wrong.

I don't understand why saying the pledge in another language is unamerican. Seriously, it's probably more American than a lot of things. This country was founded on the notion of freedom. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom from the govt. telling you what to do or think.

The idea that reciting the pledge in another language shouldn't be done is probably more damaging to the ideas that america was founded on than any damage that could possibly come from it actually happening.

It goes both ways, If people don't like my opinion they don't have to agree with.
But everyone else is giving their opinions, I dont agree with them, but that is fine. its just someone's opinion.
I am not bashing other people who have different views than I do, so why is everyone bashing me?

Maybe your getting bashed cause you sound like a 22 year old who's wet behind the ears a bit.
If you are in fact 22... I'd suggest you travel a bit, see the world and open your mind to "diversity". It's a little more complicated than riding around in a pickup and waving Stars and Bars your family likely never fought under.

Being a bigot never scored points in polite society... even in the Deep South.

I am 22, I have been to Japan 3 times, my best friend lives there. And my great great grandfather and 2 uncles fought and died for the Confederacy, and I AM damn proud of that and of my herritage, and I could careless what people think of me. I am just gonna back away from this, before it gets too out of control.
