I’m not ignorant I’m just intolerant. I have my beliefs and they are very strong. No one is going to change how I feel or make me feel bad for my views.

So, how do you feel when people are intolerant of you?

And, what exactly, in this situation, brings out your intolerance?

Again, this was simply an exercise in a Spanish language class (a class where kids are taught to speak Spanish). This was not a protest by Hispanic students. This was not the act of some left wing teacher. This was simply an exercise in a Spanish class.

No yall don't get it, the issue is that the school/teacher is requiring that he recite it in spanish. If the kid had a choice on saying it in spanish or not, there would be no problem. It's almost like forcing someone to worship a different god. If the kid and his family don't believe in it, he should not have to participate.

I am not trying to be an A$$hole to anyone, things like this just really pisses me off

Why would you be given a choice to say it in any other language in a spanish class? And transposing religion and language? OMG, ROFLCOPTERBBQWTFFFS!

Ah done pledges allegiance
to da Flag
o' da United States
o' America
an' ta da Republic
fo' which it stands,
one Nation, Beneaf God,
indimuhvisible,
wiff liberty an'
justice fo' all.

Add some done did's and this sounds no different than redneck.

One of the reasons I love America is because we have the FREEDOM OF SPEECH and if you or anyone else can't deal with or respect that then oh well.... I have my opinion and that's that. Move on or cry about it, I don't care which you chose.

Freedom of Speech does not mean freedom of consequences of speech. If you think it does, come stand 3 feet from me and start rambling whatever you want, Im sure you'll get a lesson fairly quick on the matters of cost of free speech.

JB, effort is futile. When someone doesnt know any better, sure it is ignorance. Since it has been discussed, ad nauseum, the reasons why the POA was to be said in Spanish, means they are informed. Thus ceasing claims to ignorance and advancing straight to stupidity.

One last parting thought,... English is NOT the American language, never has been, never was. And the founding fathers are the ones you can thank for that. Children across the world know several languages before they are 10 years of age. I think its embarrassing that the US doesnt push education harder. And that isnt some "global unity" crap either.

Children of european countries speak multiple languages because they could get in a car and in 12hrs travel through 5 different countries.

That "teacher" could have picked any nursery ryhme or any other well known saying for them to translate but instead chose the POA, deportation is the only answer. Nuff said

Sure, because France and England/America are within 12 hours of Japan.
And despite the proximity of other countries using other languages, that doesnt hold true for every child in Europe. So your explanation is false.

Teaching foreign languages not only stimulates brains during the development cycle, it also promotes a healthier competitive edge in the global market place. I dont give a chit how "Buy American" you are, you cant get away from the global market. By limiting American kids to 1 or 2 languages, you are only promoting the employment of ex-pats of other nations or Generation I children of ex-pats. This isnt just for "buying jobs" either, this is for sales, engineering,... the list goes on.

I work in HVAC manufacturing as a EE and have talked to Italians, French Canadians, Indians, Serbians, Turkish, and Chinese.

Why? Why not the PoA? What is wrong with the PoA in a language other than English? I suppose you would have been satisfied if they said:

Bandera de México,
Legado de Nuestros Héroes,
Símbolo de la Unidad
de nuestros Padres
y de nuestros Hermanos.

Te prometemos:

Ser siempre fieles
a los principios de
la libertad y la justicia,
que hacen de Nuestra
Patria la Nación
Independiente, humana
y generosa a la que
entregamos nuestra
existencia.
instead????

I don't get it. According to the article:

"She said students and parents were made aware of the assignment at the beginning of the school year, and added: 'If a parent has an issue with an assignment and calls in advance of that assignment being given, then the student can be given an alternative assignment.'"

If nobody was really forced to do anything, that undermines a lot of the arguments I see on this thread. I believe English should be our only recognized official language, but if anyone actually read the article, she only picked the pledge because it was something students were guaranteed to already have memorized in English.

Also, have we established that she is an illegal? Because last time I checked you couldn't deport US citizens.

I believe English should be our only recognized official language.

And I believe the Founding Fathers had it right the first time, when they explicitly left out anything that declared English as our national language. To sum it up rather nicely, Thomas Jefferson said, "“The government that governs least governs best.” Why on earth would you want one more thing that the government gets to tell you what or how to do?
