Back in 94 and 95 I worked a part-time security job at the Okc GM plant. Every day the groundskeepers were cleaning up the parking lot and the road leading in to the back side of the plant where the workers were dumping their beer and whiskey cans and bottles.

Years ago, in the sixties the Auto makers were doing great because the Japanese were not here yet in full force. There was an article in the Atlantic Monthly that explained it all to me, maybe not to you. Well, Auto makers in the US had the market so every time the UAW came to the table the big guys gave them all. Well, the Japs starting in the late sixties figured out how to make steel cheaper for the industry and shipped it over, and that had an effect on the auto industry and the steel industry. That is where is all began, things got cheaper per the Japanese, and so forth, so you guys go figure it out. MGMT gave in to the UAW and the Steel Workers too many years.

My guess is that the fired workers testified that they were drinking soda pop and smoking cigarettes that day. If none of them were piss tested or blood tested within certain hours after the incident, then isn't any proof. This is most likely why management lost. Usually when fired workers are reinstated they are " made whole ". This means they got all backpay( including missed overtime ), and any money they spent for benifits usually paid by the company, and sometimes a cash settlement. I used to be union and have been in arbitrations. I couldn't support Obama so I got out.

Just another great example of the qualities of organized labor. Get a job, join a union, get fat and lazy, never get fired... Any why doesn't management want the unions? Why do foreign cars hold their value over American cars?

I recently quit a union job that had great pay and benefits but I used absolutely zero of my 26 yrs of experience. It was so depressing what that job had become. They also had a guy who was a constant no-show, slept on the job, had other issues numerous people had tried to talk to him about. What was the solution? They promoted him out of the position.

I was in the cafeteria at work some years ago and a big fat union steward came through and very loudly asked the question "I wonder how I can f#%k the company today?". This is the same union that went on strike as the country was going to war after 9/11; we are a major defense contractor. Any wonder why I despise unions?
