Anyone see this as a precursor to a push for a national registry for mental health issues tied to background checks? And if they push that, the sheeple will support it overwhelmingly, mark my words.

Which of course would be a precursor to full health records available for the .gov, since they need to know all about us to protect the public from each other and themselves.

Just a thought...

I am frightened and amused by the people out there that think the government can and will protect them from ourselves. While I think they should protect from China or mother Russia, they haven't even done a good job at that seeing how China owns us.

I've only seen it pointed out in one article that that 96-hour-hold didn't qualify as an adjudication under federal law. That's what's going to happen: all of those short-term psych holds are going to be added as a permanent ban on firearm ownership, and there will be no standardization of the widely varying state laws.

In some states, you can make an anonymous call and get someone hauled in on a 96-hour hold. I think it's Connecticut. Seem to recall a case a few years ago where a guy went in on a forced hold, had his guns confiscated, and had to fight tooth and nail to get them back. Don't recall the outcome.

Mental health issues are the new frontier for gun control. I think tRdoc and cmhbobare both right. And eventually anyone on psych meds will need a "note" from their doc stating that they're not a threat, not going to find many if any docs that will sign off on that liability.

"We respect the rights of responsible gun owners absolutely but reasonable people agree that guns should not be sold to mentally unstable people like (recent high profile incident). Therefore I am signing into law the new "Safe and Sane Firearms Act." In addition to rigorous mental health background checks, no longer will dangerous assault weapons designed for military purposes be sold without additional checks and supervision. With this new legislation we will all be able to sleep easier."
