Hi All.

After a bit of a search I purchased a small boat, I think??!!!

After watching AL boats jump almost 4000 dollars this week.

Where did you get $4K???????????
I'm paying less than $2
I'm 60+ Years old too!!
Maybe not your wheelhouse, no need to piss on my parade!
I'm happy!

Well, I got the $4k from YOUR OWN POST!!
Have fun you fellow old, curmudgeon!

You need to learn that the internet can be fun. If you think I’m peeing on you, that’s on you. Your OSA cipher is out of alignment.

Please re-read. $4k was the amount that Al (Aluminum) boats went up last 10 days with the tariff talk.
Yea, I hear ya, they told us computers would make life easier, I dunno about that!
Also, with just words, no voice inflection or Body language, it is very hard to know the level
of intent of a comment. So yea, for me I guess it's in my mood of the moment how I react to a post. No insult meant. Just sayin.
And this Curmudgeon is gonna try to have the most fun possible!

I have a couple questions.

The prop on the 67 Evinrude Fastwin 18hp is pretty dinged up.
Could anyone recommend the best prop for this motor?

Or tell me what the stock one is?

Oh, And I want to verify something I have heard. It's said that a bigger carb on the 18hp will result in a 22hp motor?
TIA
Call the prop shop in OKC. http://www.boatcity-okc.com/ They can tell you exactly which prop is necessary for the motor. If you have the correct prop, they can rebuild it to look like new.
Two strokes can benefit from almost any modification. I raced bikes for years back in the day. The two strokes were easy to modify vs the 4 strokes.

I've had a 1964 14' Starcraft for about 20 years, I got it on Craigslist for $400. It didn't have the front two benches anymore so I put a plywood floor in it long ago and have used it to haul generators and welders over the years. Amazingly, it has never leaked.

I shopped for newer Aluminum boats over the years and was always disappointed in the how thin the metal was. Eventually I gave up ok the idea of replacing it and bought a 2022 Mercury engine for it. The fuel injected models start easily and I can burn the same gas in a generator since it isn't mixed with oil.

Yours looks pretty nice! Definitely a neat boat. As a post mentioned the metal on those older boats if often thick and heavy duty. You’ve got a good hull on your hands

How’s the trailer? Tires recent? Lights work? Have you had it in the water yet? Any leaks in hull? Nav lights? Etc

Personally… I’d have a hard time trusting that old motor… unless it’s been recently rebuilt or very very well maintained through the years. If you end up really liking the hull, I’d plan on putting more than you spent here into a late model low hours engine. Then it’d be set! (The engine is usually the majority of the cost on smaller aluminum boats)

I don’t think Glock pride is necessary trying to rain on your parade. Nor am I… it’s just that some of us have already been through several cheap boats and we’re skeptical because we learned some hard lessons lol

The trailer is bombproof!!! Pipe and welded steel, tires good, bearings freshly repacked.
Could use paint but not immediately. The hand crank winch is shot but I already have one in the shed. The rubber rollers under the keel need to be replaced. The only mark on the hull was from the mount of one of the rollers. Lights, well honestly I don't know until I plug her into my old ford truck.

I may pick it up today. As I think I mentioned the fellow curmudgeon won't sell until he shows me the motor. He said it was last on the lake in Sept. And he ran it during that warm spell in January. In a trash can ofc, but ran.

It was very properly cared for and appears well maintained, but as he admitted, the last 2 years it has been outside with a tarp. He is getting on in years and moved intown to be nearer the Medical care here. He was/is a Pharmacist, They are pretty exacting about stuff also.
So, I'm feeling good all in all. But we will see.

I totally agree with your motor observations! But I have an ace in the hole. I have a friend that is an outboard engine Guru. He already said he wants the engine if I ever get rid of it, any condition. He was pretty hyped on the whole package! And believe me, as a fellow Aircraft Mechanic, we are a picky and Anal bunch!!! Lol!! If there is something to nitpick, HE WILL FIND IT! LOL!!

Basically, even if everything is not perfect, I think it has "Good Bones" work with.

No, I don't think they were raining on my parade on purpose! As was mentioned, maybe I need a thicker skin pertaining to internet conversation.

I appreciate your experience and advice!
