The family is very self sufficient. Big garden, chickens etc. But they don’t hunt!! However, his uncle has a 1000 acres by tonkawa. Maybe I could work on him…

My family has come to understand that they can plan events any time they want, but if they expect my attendance, nothing will be planned during deer season.

Congrats!!!! I did the same thing almost, got married weekend after Thanksgiving! But it has become a ritual to celebrate our anniversary 2 weeks before or after gun season.
You say that like the kid had a choice, we all know he is just doing as he is told at this point.
Similar but not related. My nephew was born a few days before Thanksgiving back in 96. So every year his birthday party was opening day of rifle season. Needless to say, I never went to one of his parties with the family.
Was I selfish? Probably, but I had some great memories that I would never get back if I missed opening day. Heck, does a kid really know who attended their parties? Nope.
