It is more of an issue because of the "beliefs" of the American Psychiatric Association. As with some other "abnormalities," the APA chose to determine that trans-people weren't having psychiatric issues and deemed them as normal. I guess that before they did that, they did believe that trans-people did have mental issues.
The name was changed in the DMS-V from "gender identity crisis" to "gender dysphoria" the criteria for diagnosis was also changed. The DMS-V was very controversial among professionals for that and other reasons like creating new diagnoses which would label millions as mentally ill and needing treatment, have to have an official diagnosis for insurance, or the free mental health treatment for all being pushed.

I'm betting not. A lot of these 'trans' or 'non-binary' people are 'trans' or 'non-binary' in name only because that just happens to be the trendy thing going on at the moment that these people can grab onto in order to fit-in on their social media.

Put any of these people on a ranch or farm, working with 4-H youth, FFA youth, youth rodeo, helping disabled kids, or any other wholesome endeavor and their 'trans' or 'non-binary' fantasies would disappear quickly.
If the first part of your post is true then the second won't work, because their issue is simply getting what they want. Instead just say ok you're mental so you're going to the "nut hut", there would be more "healings" than at a tent revival
