Light and golden rod.

+1...

I did a whole lot of research a few years ago prior to purchasing mine. I bought a Diamond Back gun safe. Probably should have gone a little bigger. My wife had me put stuff in it I never even considered. I didn't care to go the electronic route myself. You need to make sure that the metal is as thick as you can afford. Mine was a scratch & dent sale and that the company has good reviews. Had a little scratch on the side and that is all that was wrong with it. A put a golden rod in it and ran some of the White christmas rope lights around the door for lighting and love it.

Good luck searching.

I'm in the market for a safe as well. I only know what I've read and heard, so I can't give any advice from experience.

I've read and heard great things about Bear safes, and being in Oklahoma is a plus.

I've heard from some that the new Browing safes are being manufactured overseas and are starting to have quality problems. Again...that's just what I've heard, so anyone with more accurate info...please chime in.

I'm really interested in these Dakota safes.

They're from Oklahoma, so that's a plus. I really like the modular design. The location I've picked out won't allow a full size pre-built safe to be maneuvered. I need something I can build on location. (and doing it myself is a plus).

Does anyone have any experience with the Dakota InterlocXP Safes?

Get off my lawn.
For your price range you're gonna get a Residential Security Container (RSC). Even the offerings from liberty offer minimal theft and fire protection. If you need something to keep the kids/grandkids away then an RSC would work. If you're serious about security and fire protection you need to spend the money on a Residential Security Safe (RSS) and/or schedule your guns on your home owners policy. It usually costs around $10 per $1000 insured per year. Gene Sears in El Reno has a TL-15 gun safe for around the price of a similar size Liberty RSC at H&H.

dakota are sold in tulsa. but manufactured in china. not local.. ( but they are good security safes. not so good on fire. )

any safe sold at atwoods, academy, sam's.. are low end models. the only positive thing you can say about them is. " it is better than having them stacked in the closet" but with min effort those safes can be peeled open.

do your leg work. buy smart. even if it cost you a little more money.a safe is a once in a lifetime investment if you buy right. do not low ball the value of a safe, because of the cost of the safe.

and typically the bigger the safe. the easier to pry them. so be really weary of the larger cheaper ones.
