I finally got my new 6.5-06 put together. I bought a factory 110 30-06 and turned it into a longrange machine. Components are as follows
Timney trigger
1:8 twist 26" mcgowen varmint contour blank chambered and crowned by apache gun works
Trued barrel nut and .25" trued recoil lug from northland shooters supply
Warne bases
Burris tactical rings
Vortex 6.5-20x44 scope
Choate tactical stock I had a gunsmith inlet it for the factory mag. I wanted to go with Cdi bottom metal but I started on my surgeon build as well and decided to spend more money on the surgeon. Put everything together with a friend first savage build (he's done a couple of barrel swaps)
I have just over a grand in this build including the cost of the savage package. Only test fired it once so far hope to shoot it and try some test loads this weekend. .257 vs .264" real close just a lot better bullet selection. I formed all my brass from Norma 30-06 by running it through a .280 neck sizer then 6.5-06 trimmed to length and turned the necks. Almost went 6.5-06 ai but didn't. Kinda wish I would've but the extra step in forming the brass just turned me off.

I'm hoping it likes 140 gn nosler accubonds or 130 gn barnes ttsx I loaded some 140 gn hornady sst because that's what I had around to play with. Just got notified today that the barnes and nosler I've had back ordered shipped I bought enough of each to burn the barrel trying to see if either will shoot. Gonna try h4831 IMr 7828 and rl 22 and 25. Maybe some h1000 with the barnes. They have no data for 6.5-06 so gonna avg 25-06 and .270 barnes data and see what I come up with. Hoping for 3100ish fps.

I am surprised you didnt go with the 26 Nosler. I seem to remember a thread you started on the 26 awhile back (maybe it wasn't you). What made you decide on the 6.5 - 06?

I will have one of those in the near future. Brass availability and lack of reamer availability as well. I've always had a fascination with the 6.5-06 mild recoil and great selection of high bc bullets I wanted a heavy target style gun with this build and my 26 nosler will be built on a win classic action and be in the 6-6.5 lb range hopefully.

Shot it today some at the eat and shoot gathering today. Got to the Max published load of 7828 and finally got it to tighten up. That's four shots. It shows some promise there where no pressure signs yet so I'll move up from that till I see pressure.
