Seems like the trouble was just beginning about the time you couldn't pump your own gas in Oregon....

That would have been a long time ago. When the wife and I spent that 17 months in the Grants Pass area, we worked with a lady that is/was probably in her 60's or so. She claimed that she had NEVER pumped her own gas. Apparently, she probably never traveled very much either.
