Went by Academy today to get .243 rounds for my daughters rifle. Next weekend is youth rifle. Academy had every flavor of .223/5.56 but had almost nothing in hunting cals. Not a single box in .243. What gives?

.243 is pretty tough to get right now for some reason. I was looking for some at Bass Pro awhile back and they said they haven't had any in for a while...it's as tough to get as .22 (apparently).

I saw it up to 3 months ago but zip lately. Very glad we diversified. Have a totol of 7 options we can shoot beyond 100ish yds:
10mm Tanflugio limited to about 125 yds unless I start playing with hotter loads.
.243 single shot break open iron sights
7-08 bolt with red dot open type red dots 2moa size.
7mmWSM w 3x9 scope limited only by my vision and scope.
6.8spc semi auto.w 1moa red dot w/ 45 drgree MBUS & 3x flip up magnifier.
.223/5.56 5 w/ 1:7" twist woild not shoot heavier than 62gr out of it as will suffer accuracy issues. with 1moa red dots but you can shoot up to 82gr round in them for shorter range shots under about 125 yards slightly more like 85gr max or less I hear if you hand feed the first one and follow up with 82gr max or the heaviest bullets that will reliably feed in yiur particular setup. And limit your shots to the max accuracy for yours after testing.
.223/5.56 1moa red dot with FN double chrome bbl 1:9 twist made for heavier projectiles same as above except range limits with 82gr ish boolits will be much greater like as far as your vision, scope and skills can handle.

Good luck, I have seen it very sparsely over the past 12+ months, though I hardly look for it anymore. If you are close to OKC and you need some for your daughter let me know, I have some I'd sell you.

Academy generally has some "Uncle Ted's" .243 for about $37/box, but I won't touch that overpriced crap.

I know....they usually have the exotic high end expensive stuff but they didnt even have that. Thanks for all the offers....but wolly world came through w .243. I might pick up some of the heavy .223 hunting rounds for holiday antlerless season....i know .223 is light for deer but it would been cool to whack a doe with the AR

The 9 deer that have fallen to my .223 might have to take exception to your "light" statement.
The Winchester 64 PSP, Rem 62 PSP, and the Barnes VORTX are outstanding deer loads.
