Trav has been taking himself a little too seriously lately. Since he started HSP, he's gone off the edge of mall-ninjadom, but what I find interesting from this video is that given the task of building the "Jack" carbine, he and his crew chose not a single Magpul product.

Hmmmmm.

And they made no mention of price....

MSRP is a little north of two grand. No need to spec Magpul parts in that price range. Partnering with Geissele and IWC is a good fit for the price range. Both are respected by the hard use crowd. The rail was designed by Geissele for the HK-416 for the military. Despite all the latest gee whiz stocks, the Sopmod is still a top, if not the top choice by these guys. Cerakote is a superb harsh environment finish. BCM developed the Gunfighter CH to be a more durable part under modern carbine TTP's. Finally, the GF grip is a more vertical grip than the Magpul equivalent, which is something the tactical community felt was an enhancement.

All in all, it's a well though out package. At that price point, I think they should've spec'd a full Geissele trigger like the SD-C over the cheaper ACT. Other than that, I can't find anything to take issue with. If you want one, I'd get in line. These will be backordered for quite a while.

No doubt it's a rock-solid carbine just given the parts used - I just find it ironic that half of the Magpul dynamic duo had anything to do with putting together a carbine that didn't have a single Magpul part on it.

I've got a feeling the 3-way split wasn't quite as amicable as the industry would have us believe. :)
