i also know lots of people who bought a house several years ago, have taken loans against their equity (got cash), and don't realize those loans for the OTHER house they bought with it ("bought" investment/rental house with loan - mortgage is fixed, heloc isn't) is going be over 7 digits VERY soon.

they might jump. i'm not even joking. suicides are going to go thru the roof, and remember they were already higher than ever during covid. anyone talking about that anymore?

Have you ever been at a company and everyone knows layoffs are coming but no idea when? It’s like that times 100.
Twice during the telecom boom and bust.

The thing people are missing is it hasn’t gotten bad yet. Wait until layoffs, the stock market crashes, housing prices plummet, individuals max out their credit cards and they have no savings left, and a lot of people will need to make the decision on where and how they will get their next meal, then things will be bad. And there are many indicators that all the above are going to happen.

All I can say is I wouldn’t want to be living in a city, especially a blue city.

Other than our house my wife and I have a couple credit cards with medium balances. We do have my SUV which is almost $500 a month. I am thinking hard about selling (have some equity) and buying a more affordable vehicle with cash.
This should put us in a position to wipe out our cc debt quickly and continue our savings and preparation for the impending downward spiral

I'm sure this is no news to anyone on this forum, but I've had to talk to a few family members about rising tension in society.

I have seen more public altercations and road rage incidents in the past six months than I've ever seen in my life. People getting into confrontations over stupid stuff, turning a small issue or perceived wrong into reasons to release frustration and anger. Went through Fort Worth on Friday to get to a job in Waco, and saw three road rage incidents as I drove through on I-35. The other day some people got into a fight in a Walmart parking lot over a shopping cart. Everyone is on edge, people are more confrontational, and seemingly have less care to give. Society is seething right now, and it seems to me that it is going to boil over into something really nasty. We all know the reasons why, but this isn't about the politics or economics of it.

My brother is hot-headed as it is, and I had a pretty intense conversation with him about him needing to cool it off a bit and be smarter about stuff. I've had to tell my nieces and nephews to be more aware of their surroundings rather than being on their phones ignoring everything around them. Had to tell my sister to not drive so aggressively. I don't like having to tell them, but I'm scared they're going to get into a little incident and then it escalates into something no one wants to deal with.

Anyways, just a reminder that things are getting crazy and worse. You might think about having some discussions with your family, especially if you know they are maybe more susceptible to confrontation, like my brother, or if they are more oblivious to the current state of things, like the younger ones in my family. I know having that talk with my brother was a good thing, as difficult as it was. Stay safe, ya'll.
I've noticed the craziness and everything you mentioned. Something very nasty is going to happen fairly soon and I don't want to get caught lacking defensive protection. Because of this I carry my protection at all times, loaded and prepared.

I am seeing the same thing. Due to the steal and the Putz in Chief's leadership, my retirement is over. I had to get a job just to help my family afford the necessities. I am a pick up/delivery driver now. I have made it my mission to get people I meet on the city streets to be kind to each other.

I have started to wave at oncoming drivers in my area and when I am at intersections, to always give the other driver the signal to proceed before me. I have also invested in a large bag of Milk Bone treats and to everyone in my delivery area that is walking a dog, I always ask them if I can give their dog a treat.

100% of the dog walkers have really appreciated the gesture and I have created goodwill wherever I go with my business marked van. I have had the job for about a month and I have actually seen some people wave back
Next they will be hunting you down as the dog poisoner

With my luck, yes.

I finally get into the wealth position where I can retire then the demonrats steal the election and we have a peaceful protest to see what the VP will do as far as his power in the senate about the steal.
When he saw the trade winds i.e. judges and prosecutors turning their backs on the obvious illegal activities, he bailed. I do not want Pence for any office. I do want a smart, businessman for president.

Now that Joe and the Ho have glided in, and are wreaking havoc with the economy, I had to get a job. With my physical limitations I could not do what I used to anymore.

Trump is damaged goods and has a big mouth that brings on half of his troubles. He almost disowned his daughter this week. We need a candidate to step up that is not a politician.

Back when I rode my Harley as my main work transportation I kicked a couple doors and fenders, broke side mirrors off 3 different cars and punched driver side windows hard twice on people who tried to run over me because of cell phones and one pinched me into 8" tall concrete center medium and sign post, ran a side street stop sign, cut me off, she had a huge Ford Excursion full off her socialite friends, all on cell phones oblivious that I got run into the sign post. I pulled up to drivers side in left turn lane, punched the window and screamed "YOU DRIVE LIKE S***"
A motorcycle cop saw me, pulled me over like 10 blocks away, told me to chill it wasnt worth going to jail, told me same thing has happened to him on his police Harley, said he had their tag # and was going to issue the lady a ticket for distracted driving, running a stop sign and illegal lane change.
I got to know the cop, rented a house 2 doors down from him, great guy, we worked on bike stuff several times.

Man I feel ya, I had a goal to retire before 35 and I did at 34. Here it is 4 years later I'm seriously considering going back to work. 😭
