Wrong. He had possession as his butt hit the turf, ball came out shortly after. Therefore, down by contact. As an aside, the catch in the back of the endzone by OU (before the kicker's TD) was also a TD; his feet were down, ball in receiver's possession. As I said earlier, worst officiating by far I've seen all year. Both sides got screwed repeatedly.

Agree

I'll see you Wikipedia reference (LOL) and raise you the NCAA rule book:

And from what I saw, he retained possession until after he was on the ground.

And OSU fans throwing crap at OU folks? Pathetic. That's the kind of douchbaggery reserved for Colorado fans. Let them have it.

Good game, other than the officiating.

Wrong again. He had possession of the ball as his butt hit the turf - and a player's *** hitting the ground has been used many times to determine if he is down. An OU player was in contact with him as he hit the ground, while still I possession of the ball. Down by contact. Elbows, knees, and ***** have been used for years to determine it.
It doesn't matter when he was down--the process of making the catch when going to the ground extends beyond the point when a player would normally be called down. If you don't believe me, watch the NFL games tomorrow; it will be an unusual day if that call isn't made at least once.

I don't have DVR to go back and use super-slowmo but that wasn't the way I saw it the 5-6 times it was replayed.

I do agree that the ice balls were BS as was the male cheerleader attempting to trip Striker after the fumble recover and subsequent TD. My wife, an OSU alum, was more upset about the lack of sportsmanship by the fans and that cheerleader than she was about a hard fought loss.

All plays are reviewed upstairs, but there was nothing to overturn. He went to the ground in the process of making the catch, and the ball ended up on the ground between his legs. It was, straight up, an incomplete pass.

You need to refresh yourself on the rules. He went to the ground in the process of making the catch, and the ball came loose. That is an incomplete pass in the NCAA and NFL, and has been for over five years; what part of his anatomy hit is irrelevant.

So where's the video? The angle I saw showed the OSU player on top of the OU player. I didn't see an *** on the ground with possession. It was stripped as he was rolling off the guy from the angle I saw.

I agree with Sooner and FullAuto. Struggling to pin the ball to your chest with one hand is not exactly possession. If the offense were to have an incomplete pass like this, I dont think anyone would have thought twice about it.

The operative words in Gabriel's quote are "throughout the process". If the rule book stated something similar to "instantaneous contact" then I would lean towards cjjtulsa.

Agree, multiple times a week in the NFL. Ask Calvin Johnson and he'll tell you all about it. lol

I don't know if anyone was listening to the animal after the game but a woman called in and said as she and her family was leaving the game there were some OSU fans putting rocks into snowballs and throwing them at OU fans. There is just no excuse for that no matter what. Unless maybe it is Les Miles. But seriously, I agree with some posts above that both sides were ripped on calls. But the fact remains that OU did what it took to win and they did. Officiating had nothing to do with it if we didn't score on the fake field goal we would have lost. And yes, he did have possession for the ones that say he didn't.

Would have lost if the referee hadn't swallowed his flag on the multiple blocks in the back on your punt return touchdown. Give or take anything. The first block happened straight ahead of me where I was sitting and the ref couldn't have been more than 10 or 15 feet away. That one pissed me off worse than anything else that happened. OSU came out flat and didn't do enough to make sure the atrocious officiating didn't change the outcome. Quick scoring strike in the 4th, where the heck was that the rest of the game? Guh... Going to eat pizza and drink some beer. :P I had a blast either way. I couldn't feel my toes, even with goretex boots with liners :P

Like I said ...

I said the same thing in the first bedlam thread that didn't have an official tittle and faded into obscurity. Congratulations to OU. There's always next year. *sigh*

I must really be a sucker because I've always rooted for the Saints as well.

I wonder who paid off which officials because the officiating was pretty fricken lousy as well.
