Why should he be allowed to circumvent the rules the rest of us would be required to follow?

We preach that all the time don't we? He's a member of Congress. He holds no special privilege or authority in this matter, even if we agree with his position on the situation.
Unless there is some very high level top secret or classified stuff in there then he should be allowed to see just what in the hell is going on in the state he represents. To me this shows that the Fed is hiding stuff. If they arent then they would invite him and all the other congressman and senators in. The only other reason I can think of that he shouldnt be allowed in is if there is a huge health risk to him by being in contact with the people inside.

That's kinda what I was thinking too.
He's just a politician, he has no deal authority so why should he be allowed in?

Sorry, but showing up at a gate and demanding access because "I am a Congressman" is B.S.

I agree he should be given access to the facility but there are procedures for everything. It appears he followed none of them. He's one of many Representatives, not a king. Trying to intimidate a gate guard and his supervisor is just grandstanding...

They either follow the same rules as us, or they don't. You don't get to pick and choose based on whether or not you agree with the cause.

Why Fort Sill and a couple other small time facilities. ...

Heck, I know of three facilities that could meet there needs....

House them in very accommodating housing...really dorm rooms..

Exercise facilities for the kids to run, play, and exercise...

Medical attention....

Education...

Food and caferteria facilities. ...

All their needs would be met...

1st one the kids could be housed in is in West Point, New York. When they fill up the next batch could go here...

2nd. Annapolis, Maryland.

Then when that fills up go here...

3. Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Yep, three excellent facilities.

Rules or laws? I have a problem with agency appointees who can makes rules that hide things from officials we elected to represent us. We are quickly moving towards a government where rule makers have more power than lawmakers. Seems to me that makes those rule makers our rulers.

Agreed, but name the law that grants a member of the House of Representatives any special standing or authority to pursue the issue in the manner described in this article/account.

He is a legislator and a politician.

Name the law preventing him.

That would be the applicable laws that govern access to federal installations and grant authority to those in charge of those facilities to set/enforce access policy/procedure. I'm sure that won't be hard to find on google.

Find me the laws that say a Congressman is exempt from them just because he really, really wants to look inside.

Don't get me wrong...I agree with his point about transparency, I just disagree with his tactics or assertion that he should be granted immediate access because "I am a Congressman".

Im sure you are correct that there is a procedure and simply knocking on the door wont get him in. The real questions for me are 1. should someone representing the citizens of this state in congress or the senate not have immediate access to a facility in this state when they choose to have it 2. what is the actual procedure for them to get access. 3.why are they saying he can but not for 3 weeks. They last one seems very fishy to me.
