Without such preclusion, the media would do what they do best. Sensationalize a story to propagate whatever feeling their audience is suspect of. The media is far beyond evil

Pictures of 'everything seems fine' don't get published unless that's what the public wants to see...
Interviews are conducted for a single statement that can be taken out of context...
There is no 'innocent' act of the media. It's all for hype. It's all done for sensationalism.
Sensationalism leads to another 'like' on Facebook, a clicked link to an official website, another notch in the cume of 'ratings'... It's all for the end-game of money.

The media is nothing more than an industry of gossip and rumor. I can't even see the benefit of letting them in.

"Transparency"

Not.

As long as there has been a United States Government, there have been secrets. Dark knowledge that would make our skin crawl with disgust. Things that would make us feel shame. Things that would make us question our pride and patriotism. The only reason these facilities are the topic of discussion is because you (in a grand scale, not personally) have already been influenced by a sensationalizing media. The point being, regardless of what is truly happening inside the fences, the media is no-more an outlet to tell the truth than the government itself.

You just made the perfect justification for allowing ordinary citizens to tour the facilities and ask the questions that SHOULD be answered. Not everything the United States government does should be a secret, nor should it be buried at the bottom of a mass release at 5PM on Friday where almost no one will become aware of it.

If we don't restore transparency in government, it will continue to worsen the problem. We have an near complete lack of accountability and that was never how this was supposed to work. Complaining about the media isn't going to improve this problem. :(

I completely agree with you.

Allowing the media more information to politically weaponize isn't the answer to "what's happening" Hell, three weeks ago the consensus was "They're not citizens, send 'em home. Don't spend my American money caring for them." I hardly believe the media wants in to 'check on the well being and care'

But that's exactly what they should be checking on, humane conditions. I just read a report from EPIC (El Paso Intelligence Center) that said the recent influx of OTM (Other Than Mexican) children and women with children is due to misrepresentation of the immigration law by the coyotes that profit from it, AND Central American media outlets, to include Univision, etc.

Most of these recent immigrants are not going to qualify for relief from deportation under the law. That misrepresentation is detrimantal to U.S. interests AND those who are being misled into making a border run under false pretenses. If we can't change the perception, then perhaps we need to change the law. :(

Where's the International Red Cross and Amnesty International? They were all about getting into Gitmo to "check on the conditions"...

Sure about that? It seems the trend is that deportations are down and most of them have a good chance of staying.
