Sounds like a bad deal, you all be careful out there.

GLENDALE, Okla. (AP) — LeFlore County authorities are investigating the death of a deer hunter who was found in a tree stand near Glendale in southeastern Oklahoma.

Undersheriff Donnie Edwards told KHOG-TV that initially police thought the 46-year-old man, who was discovered on Saturday, may have died from natural causes. But Edwards says the state Medical Examiner's Office determined that the man had a gunshot wound below his waist, and the bullet was lodged in his neck.

Edwards says it appears the man dropped his gun and it fired up at him. The gun was found at the base of the tree.

The man's name hasn't been released.

That stinks - Luckily, I doubt he suffered at all, given the path of the bullet and ending up in the neck.

Tree stand-related injuries (which is what I would call this) are by far more dangerous than any other single aspect of hunting, whether it be falling or something like this. A lot of guys have died pulling their guns up to thier stands with a string while loaded, and the trigger hits a tree branch. When I do this, I either un-chamber-load, or put on safety and tie in such a way that when I lift the rig, the rifle is pointed down.

RIP, hunter. I want to die while hunting but not this way. Would rather get eaten by a bear or wolves, so that I contribute to the cycle of life in the woods. :) And not until old, old, OLD age.

Most guns won't fire when dropped. Makes one wonder if the trigger hit a twig on the way down, but that would push the trigger the wrong way. The only thing left is the trigger hitting a twig on the way up.

I suppose he could have dropped the rifle, it snagged on a twig or the stump of a small branch, rebounded and the twig then could have pushed on the trigger as the rifle sprang back up.

The guy could have fallen asleep and dropped the gun, too.

It's a sad situation, regardless.

He died because he failed to follow simple safety rules. My rifle does not get ammo in it until Im in my blind or stand. I definitely don't have a round in the chamber until Im settled in. RIP dude, sucky way to go.
