I don't hunt out of a tree stand - main reason being that I am afreid of heights. I have known of people going to sleep and falling out of tree stands since I was a teenager back in the 60's.:(

Im very afraid of heights but I still hunt from tree stand, I also get a good night sleep before I go out there and always have my harness on. You ignore safety with guns, tree stands and other dangerous tool and you pay the piper.

On being afraid of heights... almost all of us are, to varying extents. But it's funny when you use a climber on a still day (where the wind doesn't increase the higher you go) on a long tall pine or cottonwood, and go up in the dark. If you can't see how far up you are (and how far down it it), it's not really scary, so you might just keep on going past 15 or 20 feet to whatever point "feels" right - but then, holy moly when that sun starts to come up and you look down...!!

:yikes2: Not me ... I am pretty sure that an unabiding, uncontrollable fear is an indication that you should not be doing something ...

My wife says the same thing but I don't know how to explain it. I had no issues sky diving but you put me on the edge of a tall building and my stomach turns and I get dizzy, even close to the window will have the same effect.

I can't explain it but it's not the same with the tree stand. When Im up there or even climb up there, it doesn't bother me at all. First time I was kind of nerve wrecking but it didn't have the same effect as sitting on the edge of a tall building. I guess climbing all those trees when I was little made trees feel normal to me, I don't know. There are still moments, like that split second when I lean forward until the harness catches me but nothing big. Im not nervous in it or anything or I would not do it.
