Back when I was growing up, gangs of county prisoners spent most days in ditches with wick wack's cutting johnson grass from the ditches. Seems like it was back in the 80's when the Supreme Court found it was cruel and inhumane to force a prisoner to perform physical work as part of their punishment.
The old days of chain gangs and busting rocks with a tack hammer days were over.
That law or ruling needs to be looked at again.

I don't disagree. I do think the chain gangs of old were pretty tough, and maybe borderline cruel in some cases. Some honest work never hurt anyone though, especially the ones sitting on their arse around the cell block generating internal trouble. A good 12 hour day of physical work makes one think of nothing but getting some rest and sleep after.
I don't think prisoners should have it any better than our troops in the field do.
