New commercial today about State Question 755, now I know you can't believe EVERYTHING you hear, but nonetheless...

It discussed a wife who was beaten and raped regularly by her "Husband", so filed a restraining order, the judge let him get away with it because he was a muslim, and for muslims it's okay to do such things to your wife under Sharia law.

This happened in New Jersey.

I understand its kind of an extreme situation, but I (personally) don't want the possibility of something like that happening in OK.

It is understandable for Sharia not to be recepted by OK laws.
but international laws is another matter.
looks like New Jersey is adopting the nationality principle... :anyone:

So for example, if question 755 pass, diplomatic immmunity will be ignored in the state of Oklahoma ?!?!?

The example used is not the first time Sharia law has been followed in the US.
Its now widely followed in europe as the muslim communities have risen to population levels, where they can force it to become law.
A couple of the leftist newspapers in Ok have come out against it.
Here is the wording of the state question:
This measure amends the State Constitution. It changes a section that deals with the courts of this state. It would amend Article 7, Section 1. It makes courts rely on federal and state law when deciding cases. It forbids courts from considering or using international law. It forbids courts from considering or using Sharia Law.
International law is also known as the law of nations. It deals with the conduct of international organizations and independent nations, such as countries, states and tribes. It deals with their relationship with each other. It also deals with some of their relationships with persons.

The law of nations is formed by the general assent of civilized nations. Sources of international law also include international agreements, as well as treaties.

Sharia Law is Islamic law. It is based on two principal sources, the Koran and the teaching of Mohammed.

Shall the proposal be approved?

The ballot title is not important. The text of the constitutional amendment is.

The Courts provided for in subsection A of this section, when exercising their judicial authority, shall uphold and adhere to the law as provided in the United States Code, federal regulations promulgated pursuant thereto, established common law, the Oklahoma Statutes and rules promulgated pursuant thereto, and if necessary the law of another state of the United States provided the law of the other state does not include Sharia Law, in making judicial decisions. The courts shall not look to the legal precepts of other nations or cultures. Specifically, the courts shall not consider international or Sharia Law. The provisions of this subsection shall apply to all cases before the respective courts including, but not limited to, cases of first impression.

Not pointed at you, I just want people to understand that ballot titles should not always be taken at face value, as evidenced in other State Questions (specifically 747 and 756).

I dont see any reason to look at international law or sharia, after all this is the USA. we dont need international law or sharia. I'm voteing yes

Foreign entities should be given a good reason to shy away from contracting with Oklahoma businesses?

Isolationist economic policies do not work.

still sticking to my decision , we do not need other countries dictating our laws. just another step toward one world government.

Nobody has said anything about "other countries dictating our laws" and that is orthogonal to my question.

I asked a legitimate question hoping to receive an intelligent answer.

The fact people are led to sincerely believe the above statement is more frightening than the the impossibility of sharia law ever being used in Oklahoma
