The wording of the survey - though it stated the faculty senate had discussed the issue before - implied that it was open to anyone who cared to answer.

Besides, though unlikely, it is possible that some well written and thought out comments from us may sway some to our side.

Everyone has the right to form an opinion...it's one of the freedoms we enjoy; based in large part on our right to vote...(once each, is the way I think it's supposed to be).

Hey, ya'll do whatever you want...the survey is a monitored instrument anyway and the date due was Dec 10. Have a good day and stay safe.

Over the last couple of years, there has been attempts to create legislation that would make it legal for anyone to carry guns on campus. This effort has been either voted down or held in committee until the bill dies.

There is a movement to be more proactive about this issue and have data readily available to give to legislators if the subject is brought before them again. This is the reason for this questionnaire; to have Oklahoma State University - Oklahoma City's response readily available.

Please note that this has been discussed in Faculty Senate in the past and in recent questionnaires and has overwhelmingly been against any effort to legalize carrying guns on campuses.

Thank you for your time and assitance with this matter.

Yes, this is clearly an unbiased survey worthy of our utmost respect and consideration.

Not trying to piss anyone off, and while I do appreciate the OP posting the news, IMO, this survey is best left to the OSU-OKC folks...it wasn't meant for us to use as a forum to sound off, after all.

If I were running a survey, I wouldn't want it it hijacked...or the results manipulated...would you?

Just sayin'.

The results have already been manipulated because the survey was not closed to OSU OKC faculty though when the results are presented they are said to represent the opinions of solely OSU OKC faculty. More importantly, however, the question they posed was biased against pro-gun legislation and is in no way relevant to the piece of campus carry legislation that is being presented this session. The campus carry bill being presented this session will allow

1) only those with a valid concealed handgun license to carry
2) they can only carry handguns
3) they can only carry them concealed
4) and they can only carry them on public university and college campuses in Oklahoma

The survey did not make any distinction as to what the actual legislation is presenting. According to their survey, such fictional legislation would all a 12 year old to carry a machine gun, open and loaded, on a high school's campus. We are promoted the concealed carry of handguns by licensed individuals on public university and college campuses.

If the results of this biased survey are indeed presented to the Board of Regents of Higher Education we will point out to them in all the ways the results of the survey are insignificant, irrelevant, and useless. The question of the survey is in no way revelant to the campus carry legislation that will be presented this session that will allow licensed individuals to carry concealed handguns on public university and college campuses across the state.

Thanks for your post Adrienne. I think we are getting the attention of the right people.

While I agree with your post above; and do understand the irrelevant wording of the survey in reference to the proposed legislation, I do not think it is in our best interests to post, especially in a public forum, such activities as "voting more than once" on any survey or other such instrument whether it was meant for the public or not.

I think that may have been meant in a humorous tone by some here, however, it could possibly be taken in a negative light by those who oppose our right to carry legally. Can you imagine if this were to hit the press? "OSA Members Vote More Than Once on Concealed Weapons Survey"

Ouch! I think the public damage that such adverse media coverage could cause would only work against us. I am just saying we should prudent in our public actions and what we say so as to not bring any unnecessary negativity to our side of the table.

A reasonable course of action, in my opinion, is for us to all write our legislators and urge them to support the cause. I did. Did all of you? We can perhaps advance our rights a lot better by doing that than through frivolity and saying how we "voted more than once" on an irelevant survey.

Don't know who to write? I bet we can get that information posted if anyone is interested...perhaps by the student group themselves who are advocating the right to legally carry on college campuses in Oklahoma.
Let's do this right folks.

Good to see you on here Adrienne. This is Brent, we've talked about SCCC on facebook a couple times.

I agree... that internet surveys are typically meaningless as far as accurate numbers.

And that we all need to be in contact with our legislators.

I talked to Adrienne for a little while today and she is a great person who has a passion about this issue. She and the Director for her group SCCC are formulating a response to the OSU-OKC poll. They are going to put together a recommended replacement poll question that doesn't bias the results and send it to the Regents so the outcome will be a true representation.

Ron Black also mentions her in a recent blog Gorilla Rants

I do understand your concerns, druryj, however I don't think an internet message board is going to have much impact on the people making these decisions. That is not to say we can't have an impact but it will come from the individuals not from a group on an internet message board.

As I get more information I will post it here or perhaps start a new thread altogether.

Thanks and keep calling your legislators.
