They have been behind for years, they are currently trying to get foreign ship builders to invest in US yards, for more options. The Koreans are looking at it pretty heavily.

The S Koreans build some pretty impressive ships. Their Sejong the Great class destroyers are arguably the most powerful in the world. More powerful armament then our Ticonderoga cruisers or the Chinese Type 055 Destroyer.

Yep and they are starting to build their own SAMS, although it will be a bit before they replace the SM-2. They have multiple sizes of their KVLS system, so they can put in larger missiles than the USN if they want. The block 2 sejong the great destroyers will have fewer VLS cells, but be able to handle the larger missiles. I'm particularly fond of their Frigate designs they have been building, for the low end. Well thought out with serial improvements with each new batch.

Maybe they can't fix them cause they sent all the repair money to Ukraine.

Typical for government spending. The gov would rather give money to illegal migrants instead of paying for needed improvement of some of the national parks and monuments.
