We have one on the back porch and it does keep the birds away. I would say get the biggest one you can and move it every couple of days.
We move them every day or two and then remove it completely for another day or so and then put it back out. Doesn’t always work but it does seem to help on occasions.
Sounds like elf on the shelf if you have to move it every day.
