Hey All,

Does anyone besides me like this restaurant? My wife and I have unoffically adopted this place as our weekend restaurant. Good food, salad, and soup.

What I don't understand; What happened to that area...North Air Depot and Reno area. Dang, as a kid...I think it was called Heritage Park Mall was bumping and so was that general area. A few months ago, a friend gave me a gift certificate to eat there or we wouldn't have gone. Now, we go just about every weekend.

New weekend restaurant. Throw in your weekend restaurant...the one that you can hang out in jeans and a nice shirt....relaxing. Cattlemen's is okay..they need new seats and a better airconditioner. Pearls and Trappers?

Have a good weekend.

I LOVE Pelicans! I grew up in that neighborhood just a few blocks north of there and Heritage Park mall was
My home away from home. Sadly, it's run its course just like Crissroads mall.
As for weekend restaurants, we do Cheddar's across from Tinker, and Milagros over at Belle Isle.

Great place to eat. I enjoy their Oysters Pelican and think their steaks are in the top 5 of what is available in OKC. Reasonably well stocked salad bar and their french onion soup is pretty good too.

Well worth the trip.

As to what happened to the area...

That's a darn good question. I'd like to hear an explanation also.

My wife and I went on our first real date there 16 years ago. Haven't been back in years. It used to be a regular stop for us. That part of town sure is trash now...kinda surprised they haven't moved.

Sean Cummings Irish Pub on N. May just south of Grand Blvd... they have some kick ass whiskeys and beers, and the food is outstanding. It's all real-deal Irish. Lots of live music too. In fact my worman and I will be making an appearance there this afternoon.

Cattlemen's is my all-time fave, but I don't consider it a weekend hangout spot. I couldn't afford it -- every time I go there I get nothing but the filet Mignon. Nothing else is worthy. I could get a burger but then I would just be thinking about how I could have had the best cut of steak available anywhere in the world as far as I have seen. I went to the nicest restaurant in Tampa a couple weeks ago... their chateaubriand was close, but still not quite Cattlemen's filet level.

I've never been to the Pelican (I'll have to remedy that based on the recommendations in this thread) but the Basil Cafe on Air Depot and Reno is fantastic.

Most of my family's "hanging out" is done in Norman so we can usually be found in Benvenuti's, Victoria's, Sergio's, Ted's, or Tarahumaras.

used to go quite a bit when we lived in the neighborhood at the se corner of ne10th and air depot back inthe early 90's. Another place that has been around over there is Chequers down air depot between reno and se 15th. try to get back over there when we get the chance.
