Doing the right thing when no one is looking. Trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. "On my honor....", etc. At the last gunshow, I had TWO different people overpay me with a $100 bill. I handed it back like it was burning my hands. They didn't even thank me, but that didn't bother me. I did it for ME not them.

Pretty much treat others the way I want to be treated. This would include keeping my word, honesty, and letting people live their lives in the manner they wish.

- Do what you say you are going to do

- Show up early

- Don't do the minimum required

Then there's this. My dad gave me this when I was about to turn 18. It was a brass etching with this poem on it. I still have it on my bathroom counter to see every morning.

You got it from your father
It was all he had to give
So it's yours to use and cherish
For as long as you may live

If you lost the watch he gave you
It can always be replaced;
But a black mark on your name
Can never be erased

It was clean the day you took it
And a worthy name to bear
When he got it from his father
There was no dishonor there

So make sure you guard it wisely
After all is said and done
You'll be glad the name is spotless
When you give it to your son

That's my thoughts on personal honor.

Honor and Integrity - two different but similar aspects of how one should live their life.

To me Honor is doing the right thing regardless of personal cost. Integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is watching.

Put 'em together and you get what many have already stated and what I constantly remind my 5 year old son of:

Say what you mean and do what you say.

Another way to sum up the combination of honor and integrity is: Doing what is right isn't always easy but it is always right.

Honour, worthily obtained, is in its nature a personal thing, and
incommunicable to any but those who had some share in obtaining it.

-- Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) American Statesman and Scientist
