I'm considering going the pin route for cleaning brass. Do you have to add water to the mix or can you tumble them dry?

It is possible to use the pins dry in a vibratory tumbler - many people do, but it can eat up the inside of the tumbler bowl. The water's main purpose is as a lubricant for the pins that will allow them to "flow" better as they polish the brass. As for water temperature, I doubt it makes much difference as to the cleaning. I use cold water straight from the tap because my barrel isn't vented and hot water will create enough pressure to push the top off. And as the barrel lays on it's side that's not a good thing!
