$699 or $749? I am very torn on optics in general. They get pricey, but so do firearms. I have seen guys spend $1,000 $2000 or more on a rifle or pistol (or on mods with a decent $500 pistol) and get mediocre optics at best. I've done that with a rifle, got a $100 "on sale optic" and found out if I spent more, it was much more accurate and target acquisition far better. This offers co witness, which is sought after with most rifles. I wouldn't want to spend the money but the gears are turning and I think I may pull the trigger on one, just as soon as my pistol is recovered from the bottom of the lake.

I think the largest problem with optic is they are not 100% necessary. Good iron sites are invaluable, pin point accuracy (only around 4") is what we are accustomed to, and a pistol is a close range firearm for most. I like many need reading glasses at this point in my life. Took me a long time to get a red dot, and I really like it. I shoot faster and more accurately with a red dot on a pistol. Would a cheap one suffice? Yes, but I do not want it to fail at the worst possible time, and if one does I am stuck with simply a glass window and my accuracy is blown to heck, the sights are harder to see without the dot. Few will remember the "EPC" from way back, but it was groundbreaking since it was the first pistol red dot site. My thoughts were a "nice range toy" fastened to the slide via adhesive. My feelings have changed as of about 4 months ago about $ and sights. My feelings now are get a sight that compliments your firearm, works best with your eyes and is well made. If you rely on it, expect to pay $. Think the price will go down as competition increases.

I believe the failure aspect is SIGNIFICANTLY overblown. I mean, I've seen the front Iron sight fly off of more than a few guns. Most dots have been shown to work even when being half destroyed. Even still, in most cases, its very easy to have a co-witness sight picture. So your iron sights will still be there.

I really don't care what people use or train with and you should always still go back to the basics from time to time, but given the technology of today, these red dots are pretty darn tough.

I put a Holosun 509T on a Custom 2011...... because it's a better RD than the trijicons for me.

Well it would seem all they'd have to change is the carrier plate if that's the case. But you cover a ton of basses with RMR, Holosun, and MOS.
I quite literally just bought a Sig Romeo Zero Enclosed Pro, doesnt fit DPP adaptor plates on a G47 MOS, and just got Sigs email today stating their version of a DPP footprint is not universal, I even used SIGs DPP plate for the Glock MOS. Until they come out with a plate that actually fits slides other than SIGs… Im gonna buy elsewhere, and at this point Im really interested in this PA dot! PS, Im not mad at SIG, I guess I shouldve called them and nagged about confirming fitment

Looks great! May have to try one if it doesn’t cost an arm & a leg, I already gave those up for the Monstrum optics.
Not sure if you’re being facetious or not, but I recently bought a newer offering from monstrum on a whim and I’m pleasantly surprised. I haven’t beat on it yet, but features, clarity and build quality seem unbelievable for the price point

I put a Holosun EPS on a pistol simply because it was a bit thinner than the slide, and it was green, not red and has a solar charger on it. I looked at Trijicon first on reputation, they weren't thin enough, the fact that the pistol is holstered I want them as snag free as possible. I have put Vortex on a carbine, much better than a Romeo 5 which was relatively cheap and far more adjustable for > 100 meters. Due to a boating accident I am now performing corrosion and water resistance studies on the firearms and sights.
