problem with 9mm load

I'm trying a new powder and not having luck with the factory load in my SW M&P 9Pro.

125 gr J&K lead bullet. 3.8 grains of Universal powder with an OAL of 1.13X

These cartridges will not cycle the gun correctly. Almost every one is an FTE.

Do I increase the powder? Shorten the OAL?

Hogdon shows 4.9 as max with a jacketed. I think you are pretty light on the powder charge.

When I was running that bullet I loaded the at 1.145 so you are close there.

I'm not fimulur with that powder but 4.9 gr is max load so I'm betting your light. I use w231 and 3.8gr is a light load for that powder also, it will barely cycle so I'm guessing that's your problem.

Strange.. I got that load off the hogdon web site for 125gr lead. How much should I up it? 4.2?

I'd go to 4.0 and work up from there.

Good deal, Like I said 3.8 gr was light in my pistol also, felt like shooting a 22lr and would barely cycle the slide. Glad you found a good load for it. I'm using 4.1 gr of w231
