Glad you brought this one back. I was very lucky to have had (and still do) some nice hunting ground in NW Oklahoma. But since I've moved to Joplin, MO It's a 5 hour plus drive and takes some scheduling to get to go. Today I found some public hunting land at FT Crowder (Neosho, MO), 30 minutes from my house, there is a little over 2000 acres and access to all sides of the property with plenty of "parking lots". I'm hoping to skip out of work early in the next week or so and do some scouting so I can set up with my bow. I hope to be able to post some pics soon. In the mean time I hope to see some more public giants posted!!

The 7 point is from last year and the 11 point is from this year. Both with a bow, on public land, from the same stand!

Lots of respect for the guys that make it happen on public land and even more for those that can consistently make it happen.

A few from the last two seasons. Man, I like hunting public ground. Until last season, Public was 95% of what I hunted and even then, the buck I ended up taking was off of public ground last season.

There is a lot of time and effort behind each one of those bucks.

This is no joke at all. However, there is always a little luck that goes into mature bucks.

I was actually chasing a completely different deer than the third buck. Had all kinds of run ins with a very legit 10 pt that I just couldn't close the deal on. Thanks to the rut, I believe this deer got very displaced from his home range. :-)

Seriously though, it is possible to kill nice deer on public ground. I am blessed with the ability to spend a lot of time scouting/hunting the ground I hunt. It's practically in my back yard. I think it plays a huge roll in the success I have seen.

A huge key for me is always being willing to move, adjust, or completely vacate an area that I know a big deer is in. They don't handle pressure at all in my experience. Meaning they will jump ship at the drop of a hat once they are buggered, whether by me(believe me, I have buggered more mature deer than I care to discuss) or another hunter.

Sorry to ramble. :-)
