Hmm, he didn't say he was going to sell it for a profit. Another way to take this OP is that he's wondering if he can build an AR and get his money out of it if he decides to sell it.

(giving the benefit of the doubt)

Hmm. This is what I heard too. Build it, play with it, decide you don't like it any more, want an upgrade to differnent brand (or what ever)...then sell it. Profit or not it would be legal.

I only have one that was factory built. The others are just lowers that I've assembled with a complete upper installed. At some point I'll get the tools to do my own uppers as well. I will know what is in them and how they were assembled. Most people who want a mutt AR will just do it themselves, for this reason and to get exactly what they want.

If somebody out there is selling a homebrew AR, I don't assume that particular individual to be an idiot, and the rifle will probably be fine. There are, however, enough idiots out there with hammers and vises and wrenches posting in classifieds on hundreds of websites that I would never buy one. Buying from a commercial enterprise like Delton or PSA or our very own at FBT is a different matter, since they are stuck with some liability whether they want it or not.
