Some of those truss bridges had a low clearance issue and trucks had hit the overhead beam. Those bridges were usually replaced quickly. And looking at this picture, the clearance is also low and you can see its been hit. Is it possible the highway was rerouted and a new bridge build at a different location and this one was given to the county? I cant remember the scope, that was too many years ago.

We sure had a blast climbing on those old RR bridges up and down that River to Eufaula. Every now and then the River would leave a good deep wash out underneath those old bridges, and jumping and diving could take place!
I have found out trussed bridges are not on state highways, but the skeede bridge is on a county road and another trussed bridge is just south of Ponca on the Railroad for rail traffic only.
As you said, it has caused a huge hole under it on the Ponca Indian tribe rez.
Kids have been jumping from it for years, and fishermen have been taking a lot of fish as well.
It's very narrow and trains coming through have a 90 mph speed limit. Scary when the trains come through, so someone who is unknown installed escape ladders on the bridge to the concrete support bases underneath.
We got caught on the bridge once when a train came through at that speed. It wants to suck a person in when hanging on for life on the structure.

Not only low clearance top to bottom but side by side.
It's gone now, but the trussed rainbow bridge in Muskogee was so narrow that two semi's were not allowed on the bridge at the same time.
I was driving across the bridge about 2am when another semi was coming from the other direction that ignored the light.
Both lost our mirrors on the drivers side it was so close. He got the ticket from the OHP.
