Folks bought groceries and gas on credit from Cecil Meyer’s store north of Chandler. Dad worked the oil fields and was paid monthly so that’s when the grocery bill got paid.
The 94’s at TG&Y were crap anyway so you were better off with the marlinI remember that TG&Y, well. I wanted that Winchester 94, so bad. Dad kept saying there wasn't a need, we didn't deer hunt much. I went 1 time, at 12 yo (Dad and Uncle were deer hunting, I carried 20 ga SxS and shot quail) Dad went 1 other time. Much to my surprise, he went to Walgreen's and bought me a Remington 1100 for Christmas .
Never have owned a 94, probably never will. But, I did get a Marlin 336 .30-30 and several more 1100s.
Walgreens, TG&Y and Western Auto were all in the same shopping center, 3 blocks from our house. The gun counter guy knew me well.
I still have relatives in Chandler (the Douglas') and we have a family reunion at the County fairgrounds every year. I was born in Chandler and raised in Davenport. I remember Chandler well.Folks bought groceries and gas on credit from Cecil Meyer’s store north of Chandler. Dad worked the oil fields and was paid monthly so that’s when the grocery bill got paid.
And you didn’t have to press 1 for English!!As a kid with no running water at home, (we had a well we drew water from in a bucket) I went to another kid's house to trade comic books and while there, the otehr kid took a drink out a water hose and his mother saw him and laid into him about how unsanitary and bad that was and I though, how wonderful it would be if I had running water through a garden hose like that at my house. Some people had no idea of hw fortunate they had it as compared to others.
I'm so old I can remember when they didn't have TV commercials in Spanish...
