Our little community wasn't just farmers and neighbors, we were mostly all related. Cousins aunts and uncles.

My family is from the Hinton area. My great uncle used to always say he had to go to Geary to find a wife so his kids wouldn’t be born with their eyes on the back of their heads.

Getting up a 6:00 am on Saturday mornings as a kid and waiting for the test pattern to go off so I could watch cartoons until noon.

Listening to the National Anthem at midnight when the TV channel went off for the night.

One rotary phone in the kitchen with a 50-foot cord.

Hauling water from the well in Dover to the farm. Four quarters bought 1,000 gallons. Dumped it all into the cistern.

Military surplus stores were everywhere and everything was cheap they sold.

Buying .22 LR at OTASCO at age 14 for 50¢ a box and no one batting an eye.

SOme of my fondest memories of my youth were building bike ramps in the streets. THe carnage that happened. THe biggest we made were using plastic 55 gallon drums laying on their sides with several sheets of plywood as the ramps. Never had a landing ramp but just landed on the flat asphalt street. It was a phucking rough landing. Several buddies landed it a couple times, most did not.

You may be correct on this, I don't know for certain,,,
But the Sonic in Stillwater, OK has a huge banner saying they were the first one.

People drive long distances to eat there just for that.

When I came home on leave from Germany (1973(,,,
I went into an Otasco store to buy a box of .22 LR to go plinking with.

I was appalled that I had to sign on a sheet of paper affirming that I was 21 years old,,,
I remember showing the man behind the counter my military ID,,,
He said it didn't matter if I were the President of the U.S.,,,
If I wanted a box of frickin' .22 LR,,,
I had to sign.

Something about it being ammo that could be used in a handgun,,,
I remember thinking that in just two years away,,,
America had gone all Commie on me.

Dad bought his Glenfield (Marlin) 30-30 from OTASCO in Chandler back in the early '80s. It sits proudly in my safe today.

Harvey Bowen owned the store. I worked there from about 1976-78 after school and on weekends.
