Update on progress. First off I forgot how long it takes to break one down that far. It has been over 20yrs since I have pulled heads. The bad/good news is that it has a cracked block. It will now turn into an engine swap which would have taken way less time if I knew the damage from the start.

Interested in in this but for a 98 suburban with 5.7 V8

If this is one of GMs craptastic vortec motors you might be in for a search to find an uncracked head. I and a friend are in the process of rebuilding my 99 suburban with the 5.7 and when we took the heads to have them rebuilt...yep they were cracked and it was running when we tore it down. The machine shop went through SIX pair before he found a pair that wasnt cracked. So all I know to say is good luck.
