Hello All,
Wife and I have to returned to Oklahoma (home to me) after living in beautiful, but very liberal Oregon for quite a few years. Glad to be back in the Sooner state! We are relatively new shooters with just a few years of experience in 9mm semi-automatic pistols. I also have an AR-15 that I put together with parts a while back. We are looking to get my wife a softer-shooting 380 auto, probably a Ruger LCP Max since she really doesn't like shooting the P365 much. I am looking to upgrade my carry option to a G43X MOS with a red dot and get trained up on it. To do this, we are going to downsize a bit and sell a couple of pistols. Being new to Oklahoma's gun laws, can someone point me to a primer on "How to sell a gun" in Oklahoma? Thanks!

Welcome... I moved to Oklahoma just a little less than 2 years ago from the PNW myself (Lewiston, ID).

How to sell a gun in OK:

1) Find a buyer
2) Verify buyer is a legal resident and of legal age (Oklahoma DL or ID)
3) Satisfy yourself buyer is not prohibited from owning/possessing a firearm (example: asking them is pretty easy...or check to see if they have a carry permit)
4) Take buyer's money
5) Give buyer gun

That's the Reader's Digest version. If you sell the gun to someone on the OK Shooter's forum look for feedback under their avatar. Good way to know right off if someone is likely legal to buy. No receipt or bill of sale is required though you can ask for one if you'd like. Some people don't care for that. The beauty of private sales is...it's private.

Actually, there aren't a lot of requirements as far as selling a gun in Oklahoma. You cannot "knowingly" sell a gun to an out of state resident, or to anyone that is restricted from possessing a firearm, but you're under no legal obligation to obtain proof. I will usually ask, "you are legally qualified to buy a gun in Oklahoma?" Unless something about them spooks me, a "yes" is all I need.

Welcome back! As you are looking for something "soft shooting" I would recommend you look into Ruger's LCR in .327 Mag. It is a 6 shot revolver that can shoot a varity of rounds that go from very little recoil to pretty stiff. .32 shorts have almost no recoil, then .32, .32 H&R Mag and .327 Mag that has a fairly heavy recoil.
My choice for self defense is the Hornady Critical Defense in .32 H&R Mag. For inexperienced shooters I prefer a revolver to a semi-auto.

Intriguing...neither one of us has shot or handled a revolver. I understand the concept of the double action (heavy) trigger for a new shooter, but I can't help but wonder if becoming proficiently accurate with a heavy trigger pull isn't somewhat difficult. A quick search for your .32 H&R Mag ammo on Ammoseek brought up absolutely none available. I do appreciate the simplicity/concealability of a small revolver with the internal hammer. I will have to rent one to shoot! I would like to see how the recoil impulse of the .327 Magum is compared to my G43X in 9mm. Thanks for your thoughts and experience...
