Regardless of the cause, you are going to have to disassemble it. Hopefully nothing is damaged, but replacement parts are plentiful if needed. They are maybe the hardest (highly produced) pistols to reassemble.
You need to get some instructions and a parts diagram. I recently bought a MK III that was missing a bunch of parts. I also have four 22/45 MK IIIs that I took the magazine safety out of and replaced with the MKII hammer bushings.
I watched a video and kept instructions on my tablet screen while I did them all. It really helped. There was more than one that I had to put a couple of the parts in twice to get it right. It can be done just take your time and don't lose any parts. If you do they are easy to get but you have to wait for them.
