I have several .22 pistols, one of them being a s&w 22a. While shooting it several weeks back the recoil spring punched through the front of the plastic slide insert. I have a new one, but several searches have not turned up and help videos on disassembling the slide. d]Does anyone have a clue as to how to remove the old slide insert and install the new one?
I believe it is very similar to the browning buckmark disassembly. Browning used plastic inserts in a few spot that were known to break as well.
No, but I replaced that while I had it apart. I ordered the insert from Numrich. I use a flat faced punch and tapped the insert out and replaced it. Also discovered the firing pin had a small bend in the front part so I straightened that out, The parts were cheap, so I ordered a few spares.
The plastic insert was a poorly thought out design. I'm not sure what made the engineer think having the recoil spring ride against a thin plastic part was a good idea.
Other than that it shoots well, and I like it. I just don't shoot it as much as my Buckmarks.
My buckmark had that same plastic piece as well that cracked in half. I ended up ordering a few from numrichs. Yes very piss poor designing for sure.
