Well, that’s what induced the confusion. It’s a five shot. I guess I just need to look at the box. I’ve had it for thirty years.
Yeah, the 340 is a 5 shot J frame as well. It's gotta be a K or L frame.

Hey now, dont forget the 32s in the J frame are 6 shot too!I thought maybe it was a 6 shot K frame. All J frames (except the .22s) are 5 shot cylinders.

Well, I had to go wade through the constricting rattleobras in the dark of night to satisfy my craving for knowledge, or more rightly refresh my memory. The box says S&W 640 2 1/8” barrel... and it still doesn’t fit in a Blackhawk J frame holster. I’ve said it before, my memory is the second shortest thing on me. Unless I’m packing this little whatever frame.
I think the ideer behind the Airweights is to extend the shooter's Life (long enough to buy more S&Dubs).
How many chops d'ya get out of a battle-axe b'fore the handle gets loose?
I like my 638 with the shrouded hammer. It doesn't snag, but can still be cocked for single action shooting.
Plus it has laser grips.
How cool is that?

I think your and my "32" span different time frames.Actually, those are I frames or more commonly called hand ejectors, because they were the first of the swing out cylinder revolvers.

The models 31, 631, 431pd I am betting are all J-frames. And have 6 shot cylinders
The 32 H&R magnum was born in 1984.
I dont know the production history of the I-frame, but I doubt they made any in the post pinned and recessed era.
I am not really a fan of the 32 s&w or the 32 s&w long, but am liking those 32 magnums!
