My wife has a business trip to San Antonio this weekend, and I'm tagging along for our anniversary. They're putting us up in a very nice place on the Riverwalk.

I've never been to the Riverwalk, and she hasn't been since high school.

So, where is a great place to eat?

I'm looking for a great steak, and she doesn't eat beef or pork. She generally gets chicken. So we need a place that serves great beef and chicken.

A good wine selection is a plus, but not important. Anything more expensive than Boone's Farm gives her a headache shortly after drinking it, so it would likely only be me partaking of the wine.

Price isn't too much of an object. A family member gave us $100 "for dinner", but obviously we don't want to spend that much. But I want a worthy atmosphere for our third anniversary. It's really the first time we've ever been able to do something nice for it.

Also, if there are other opportunities for entertainment, please let me know. Her engagement is on Sunday, so I'm stuck with nothing to do all day. Something nice for Saturday would be good, but Sunday would need to be cheap. I'd like to stick to the Riverwalk area.

Spent 4 years down there so here goes.
To get good food, you have to get away from the river walk. I suggest Mi Tierra's (its in the market close to riverwalk) for supper if yall like Mexican food and then go back to river walk to Durty Nelly's Irish Pub for your entertainment. You wont be disappointed.

Have the mariachi band play her a song at Mi Tierra's.

And at Durty Nellys: nothing better than a drunk Irishman on a piano!:drunk: Good times.

If yOu have a large budget The Palm steakhouse is the best meal and service you will EVER HAVE! It's slightly off the walk itself but you'll love it. The downside $150 for two people + beverage= expensive as $%#*

Several great restaurants, for the big anniversary dinner try Biga on the Banks or Boudro's, both are excellent fine dining. Michelino's great Italian have your wife try the Pollo Sugo Bianco.
A few blocks west of the Riverwalk is the Mercado and there are three or four excellent restaurants there too.
For breakfast or lunch you must go to Schilo's Deli, get their homemade root beer, hot mustard, and a potato pancake.
Forget the River boat tours, get a 24 or a three day River Taxi Pass (buy them from the taxi pilot). You get unlimited rides on the taxi, can get on and off wherever you like, they run two or three of them all day long so you never have to wait more than a few minutes.

Just hit the Riverwalk for my wife's birthday in September.

general listing of places close by.

I will second Mi Tierra. About a mile or so from the riverwalk. Open 24 hours. Great food, excellent bakery.

If you can, go to The Guenther House.

A breakfast place about 2 miles from the riverwalk. If you go, get the founders coffee. One of the best cups of coffee you will ever have. We bought several pounds and brought it back with us and have already ordered more.

Good steak, try the Little Rhein Steakhouse. It ain't cheap, but it is good. Everything is ala carte.

Another place to consider is boudros.

Pricey, but good. We ate inside. Had the wood grilled Atlantic salmon. Yummy. the creole mustard sauce was incredible, and I am not much of a sauce person.

You will not be too far from the Alamo. About three or four blocks. Always a good tour. Interesting.

At night, I was surprised by the amount of street people. We got hit up by panhanlders multiple times. More than once, I had my hand on my concealed carry piece. Nothing ever happened, but there were a few "tense" moments.

Heavy, heavy police presence at night while we were there. Lotta shows and tourists in the area so they keep it pretty well covered, I guess.

Have fun.

All the above are good choices. I will be there this weekend also. For entertainment I would recommend the river boat tour. The history and architecture is pretty cool. Don't forget the Alamo!! (pun intended). It is right off of the riverwalk also.

another of my favorites.

I'll have to stop by there. For some reason, "Irish Pub"s seem to be better than any bars in the area. Maybe it's my imagination.

By the way, is that a Guinness Extra Stout the kid has? (j/k, i know better)

Anyway, we're going to try to stay on the Riverwalk. I plan to drink and hate paying cab fares, so walking it will be.
