Another idea is to install handgun safes and supply every safe a 9mm handgun in classrooms and supply all teachers with a key. This helps eliminate the teachers who do not wish to carry all the time, but keeps one readily accessible if needed to defend our students.

My son goes to Edmond Santa Fe High School and they have multiple full time police officers there everyday all day. I know the Edmond bashing will start, but they seem to be doing something right.

Cost issues aside, my impression is that the educational bureaucracy cannot tolerate the idea that all schools require armed guards because it wipes out their utopian image of the world they are seeking to create. It is against their "culture" in which education can cure all of the ills of society.

Well said Dale, I would guess that about 100 grand a year would pay for a full time officer with benefits. Seems like chump change to me. Maybe one or two useless administrators. Or one less program designed for social engineering to cover the cost.

I've opposed every bond issue to ever come up. If they wanted to put forward a security bond that includes an armed presence in all schools, I am on board 100%. Priorities, priorities.

Has any of the smaller schools started discussions on security yet? I doubt my small school has. I'm going to contact a couple of the board members to try to get them to talk about it. Like Dale said though, that would mean they have to admit they may not have as much of a utopian little town as they think. Drugs are still rampant in these small towns. Just this past month, a farmer had several firearms stolen, hand guns and long guns. We're pretty sure it was a kid supporting his drug habit since absolutely nothing else was taken or disturbed.

Many schools do have armed security or police but most do not. They just need to increase it to all schools as it will not only help deter school shootings but also pedophiles, drug dealers and gang violence on school grounds.

What I found disgusting today was NBC’s David Gregory waving around a 30 round AR mag in violation of the law while ranting about the NRA's wanting to put cops at schools, while his kids go to a school with an 11 person security force. Many of them police who are more then likely armed.

As for small town security, I just talked to my sister in law that is a teacher in a small town out by Tulsa and they were "given" permission if a shooter entered their school they could break the window to get out. Wow, just wow. That's the response some schools are going with. Sometimes I feel the people in charge of our childrens education and safety somehow missed getting educated along the way. These are the type of people who eventually become our politicians.
