Now that my gun addiction is under control I’m starting to look at knives as another hobby. I have a couple really cheap knives, but just decided to get one for protection from dogs and 2 legged creatures, and to wear when I’m in places where I can’t carry a gun. I see so many dogs off leash when I’m walking my 10lb Yorker Poo. I really don’t want to shoot a viscous dog in a crowded area and the thought of using pepper spray in Oklahoma winds doesn’t appeal to me. So I ordered this: The Spyderco Civilian IMG_5884.jpeg

I really like the Matriarch, it has the same blade profile but with an Emerson opener.

While looking at it I came across a Kershaw with an Emerson opener and D2 tool steel blade, and was sold on the price and features so I bought it. Only complaint I have is the clip design lends it to snagging on things while in your pocket - if you’re like me and somehow manage to bump into stuff.

For me the Kershaw made more sense, but Spyderco’s design is definitely one of my favorites.

I liked the Matriarch 2 and Emerson opener, but I really wanted something at least 4 inches long. Plus I have no real knife fighting experience, so the civilian was right up my alley. I feel a less expensive hobby coming on. My wife is going to be so proud!
