SIG Sauer Introduces Elite Performance .300 AAC Blackout Ammunition

In 2014 SIG Sauer emerged into the ammo market with their introduction of Elite Performance handgun ammunition. New to the Elite Performance product line is a subsonic .300 AAC Blackout load, which represents the company’s first rifle ammunition product.

Loaded with a 220-grain Open Tip Match (OTM) projectile, SIG Sauer’s new Elite Performance .300 AAC Blackout skirts just under the speed of sound at an advertised muzzle velocity of 1,000 feet-per-second (fps) with 489 foot-pounds of energy. Designed for use with or without a suppressor, this ammunition is intended to have low recoil with minimal muzzle flash and sound signature.

Suited for target shooting and tactical applications, Elite Performance .300 AAC Blackout is loaded to cycle through modern sporting rifles, including the SIG Sauer 556xi rifle, which can be easily converted to chamber Blackout cartridges. During initial testing through an unsuppressed 10.5-inch Brownells barrel, G&A Editors found SIG Sauer’s new Blackout round to perform at an average muzzle velocity of 972 fps with 462 foot-pounds of energy.

“The subsonic, 220-grain 300 Blackout is fun to shoot, especially using a silencer, and extremely popular with those who want reduced sound and muzzle flash,” said Bud Fini, vice president of marketing for SIG SAUER. “Fans of the 300 Blackout also appreciate the convenience of being able to use standard 5.56 NATO AR magazines with 300 Blackout rounds without a reduction in capacity. And, if they don’t already own a modern sporting rifle chambered in 300 Blackout, all they have to do is change the uppers of their AR-15 to convert.”

Retail availability date and pricing are not yet available. We also expect to see additional offerings of Elite Performance rifle ammunition in 2015, including a supersonic load for the .300 AAC Blackout.

Don't know that this will be any better or worse than any other ammo, but the more companies supporting the caliber, the better for those who shoot it.
