VW had a Rabbit diesel PU in 1980. I test drove one but 50 mpg and very little payload wasn't enough to convince me to buy one.

50mpg and what was the price of diesel then? A friend of mine in high school (late 80's) had one, and it was pretty gutless. But he could drive forever on $20!

Agreed, both Ford and Nissan scrapped potential 4.?l diesels for their half tons..........................in the USA anyway.

Yep. And I was foaming at the mouth for that F150 diesel.
