So I've only been reloading for about a year, 9mm & .223 so far, i sold my AR a while back but still have some powder, primers, brass etc..
i was read the other day on people using small rifle primers in place of small pistol primers. anyone have any experience with this?
I don't plan on using them anytime soon but consider it in a pinch... any thoughts?

Rifle primers are generally harder than pistol primers. primers for 5.56 ammo specifically are even harder. Give a few a go, if they work in your 9, no reason not to use them. be prepared to clear a slight strike until you're sure you're pistol is hitting them hard enough.

Not sure about small primers, but large rifle primers are a tad bit taller than large pistol primers, and may not seat below flush. Probably not a problem in a semi-auto, but can definitely be a problem in tubular magazine rifles chambered for pistol cartridges, like my Rossi '92 or Uberti Henry, both in .44-40.

Anyway, it's something to think about.

I haven't tried it but have read that it will increase pressures some so if you are loading near maximum powder already, I suggest reducing the charge and working it up as a new load.
