I have places on dry dirt a 2wd won't get you 10' unless you make a dukes of hazard run at it.

Well, both of my trucks are 2 wheel drive. And, one of them pulls our home, which just happens to weigh about 18,500 lbs. So, is this 2WD only a car with a bed?

Things I've heard about 4WD:

Guaranteed to get one stuck in places that a tow truck can't go.

Under the right conditions, will put one in the ditch faster than a two wheel drive.
