Right on. Thanks. It must have been I was trying to cook it too fast. I'll give it a shot with either Thanksgiving or Christmas.

You will NOT be disappointed ... :spaghetti:

He taught me how to do it one year because he had to work when he needed to be cooking ... It's really easy ... Mine was just as good as his ... the trick is to keep the temp between 150 and 200 ... and make sure your little pan of water doesn't go dry. I used one of those little aluminim pans you can get at the store, that way you can just toss it out when you are done.

If it happens to be a nice day, a jacket and some coffee and Bailey's and a comfortable lawn chair make the whole affair a pretty decent experience all in all ...

traditional oven roasted ... always comes out great!!
along with a baked ham... hmmmmmm..

all you folks that fry your turkey.... question... what do you do with all that grease left over? sounds good... but it is worth it?

got a turkey fryer outside, but have never used it.
mainly due to not wanting to deal with all that left over grease...

Is it worth the trouble? You bet it is!

If you have deep fried turkey one time, you'll never want to have it oven roasted again.

As for the leftover cooking oil, just dump it into the nearest city drainage. :D j/k

I'm sure someone here has an idea of how to dispose of it, like maybe take it to McDonald's and empty it into their grease dumpster in the back.

Good deal! I like the lawn chair and drink idea! I'll give it a shot even though i'm a deep fried lover. Gotta be open to change though.

Since I have a Cookshack smoker now I'm gonna smoke it. I told the family about 5 years ago that if I cook a turkey it WILL BE fried. This perturbs the in-laws to no end since they think that good stuffing just can't be made without roasting it and grabbing the drippings. Uhhh they sell broth? Not the same? Okay throw a chicken in and use that. No birds in the oven for me ever again after frying one.

But the cookshack hasn't done a bird yet and it does everything else so well I'm gonna forgo the fryer this year.

Still ain't doing the oven tho... :hellno:
