As soon as I finish frying my turkey I throw a potato that was cut in half and let it cook for a bit (this refreshes the oil) then let it cool. I then pour the oil in smaller containers and keep some out and then freeze the rest and use it through out the year. It can replace your cooking oil in the kitchen and save you some money. Ill also put it in my smaller fry daddy.

i was looking at my grand mothers cookbook today, dated 1929. it mentions the potato trick in the oil to do just what your are saying. amazing some of the things in that cookbook.

This year my bird will come from someone else, catered. most likely it will be roasted.

in the past i have smoked turkey breast in one of those bullet style smokers and had good results. what i learned and experienced was to put the turkey on the middle rack and do a pork roast on the top rack and let it baste the turkey breast with its drippings. was really good that way and ended up with some really nice pulled smoked pork also.

this sounds like a good way to put up the used oil
that potato trick sounds neat...

Advises you not to, or forbids you to?

"Don’t deep fry your turkey."

Additionally: "Where you won’t find the UL Mark is on one single turkey fryer. Not one. All are deemed far too unsafe"

Too many idiots deep frying frozen turkeys I guess....

Like I said, the document this is on counts as our quarterly safety training. I feel safer already.....

Deep fried turkey is awesome though. :) Used to have it every year until my grandfather died. My brother may make it this year.

I was wondering...is it possible to make a BoBo's Turkey? BoBo's chicken is chicken that is smoked first then fried....couldn't you do the same thing with a turkey?

Mmmmmm...I think I need to experiment...
