The minute its multiple folks on one- especially if they are trying to kick a downed opponent- the bar for “ serious bodily harm” has been met, and it is clear they have the means and intent to kill or cause serious injury- people are killed this way regularly. At that point going to a weapon if you have one is justified in my opinion

Typically, one has to have a reasonable fear that death or a serious injury will happen to justify lethal force in self defense.
