Depends on design- ladder is grooves cut or pressed into metal.Feather is cut vertically down the billet then rewelded to get the feather.
It all has to do with the way he folds it... I thought it was random at first, but he actually knows how to fold it all so that it comes out looking exactly like he wants it too.
Next time he is forging, I'll try to take some video and post it on YouTube. He lives way out in the sticks though, so I don't go there much.

I wonder how that impacts the strength of the blade? there's got to be stresses in the crystalline structure of the steel where the colors change one would think.
WTH? Is that a bunch of pieces cut, turned 90 degrees and rewelded?
